SERVING FAMILIES FOR 30 YEARS

The mission of the Family Care Councils (FCCs) of Florida is to educate and empower individuals with developmental disabilities and their families, partnering with the Agency for Persons with Disabilities, to bring quality services to individuals with dignity and choice.

July 2022 marks 30 years since the Family Care Councils were formed. The 15 local councils throughout the state consist of Governor-appointed volunteers who provide education and empowerment for self-advocates in Florida, as well as their families. The Family Care Councils partner with the Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD) to make sure self-advocates and their families have input in statewide policies.

We’ve made great progress, but there’s so much more we want to accomplish. This is where we need your help. FCC members are individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and parents, siblings, grandparents, and guardians of people who qualify for services from APD. Together we mentor families, meet with legislators, host educational forums, review APD policies, and much more.

We encourage you to get involved as a member and reach out to your local council. Share your story and connect with someone who is experiencing a similar journey. Take a look around our website for more information and resources.
