  • Representative Proctor's Recommendations For working with the Legislature
  • Good Info about voting
  • Find out who is running for office
  • Good Questions to ask your Legislators - Draft
    • Would you consider proposing legislation to consider alternate forms of providing direction to APD?  A Board of directors, for example, including, of course, families?

    •  Are you familiar with the needs of individuals with disabilities and their families in your district?

    • Would you consider introducing legislation to amend the state constitution to guarantee specific minimum services for the developmentally disabled?

    • Can you name the 5 diagnoses that make up Florida’s developmental disability Statute?

    • Do you know the statistics on the current APD waiting list for services?

    • How would you address the current APD waiting list for services?

    • Would you have ideas on how to prioritize the APD waiting list?

    • What existing community resources in your district, do you feel could be made available to individuals with developmental disabilities that would help and assist both the cities and these individuals in these tough economic times? Would you work on identification or implementation of such resources known as natural supports?

    • Would you be willing to sponsor legislation to give cities and towns a financial incentive to hire the developmentally disabled?

    • Have you met with a local FCC and if not would you attend a meeting to speak with individuals and their families to discuss their issues?

    • Have you had a family member with a developmental disability or personally spent time with an individual and their family, or visited at a group home?

    • Would you and your aides consider spending time at a group home, at a day program, or at a family home to fully grasp the circle of supports, services and needs experienced by individuals and families 24/7? Experiencing both the successes possible and barriers that exist, how would you share this information with others?

    • Would you consider financial or other incentives for counties/cities to provide accessible transport for those individuals with developmental disabilities, assisting education, work and social activities?

    • What committees are you hoping to be appointed to that you believe can make a difference in people’s lives. What are the key legislative issues you plan to address if elected, or for incumbent-have worked on in the past sessions or plan to this session?

    • would you consider introducing legislation to remove the requirement that foster care children are moved to the top of the waiting list?

    • What is your current position on Medicaid Reform, and in particular your position on managed care for those with disabilities or individuals with developmental disabilities? Would you agree to participate in a Forum or town hall meeting on the topic with individuals with DD and families ?

    • "Thirty nine states already have a program that permits persons with disabilities to work as long as they "Buy in to Medicaid".  Are you aware that Senator Crist and Rep. Reid are sponsoring legislation that would add Florida to those States and will you support the bill?  What are your concerns about such a bill? "
